Fine Art Quilts Exhibition
Loewen Studio & Gallery invites quilt artists worldwide to submit original work for the inaugural Fine Art Quilts Exhibition—a juried show celebrating the expressive power and artistic merit of quilting. This exhibition seeks to highlight quilts that embody originality, strong visual design, and fine art sensibility.
Submissions may range from abstract to representational, minimalist to intricate. Traditional techniques are welcome if presented in innovative ways. Mixed media, surface design, and unconventional materials are encouraged, provided the work adheres to the definition of a quilt.
This exhibition affirms quilting as a serious fine art discipline and offers artists the opportunity for national and international visibility in a professionally curated gallery setting.
Loewen Gallery’s Featured Artist
Peggy Black: Redefining Quilt Making as Art
Peggy Black is a full-time improvisational textile artist. The rhythm and repetition of piecing fabric, cutting those pieces to create new configurations and rejoining them - without ruler or measurement - create vibrant, abstract structures. Bold color and value choices further propel the musicality of these compositions. The works are densely quilted, resulting in dynamic fabric paintings.
In 2017 Peggy was honored to receive Best of Show Quilt National 2017 at The Dairy Barn Art Center in Athens Ohio. Recently, she received Best of Show at Biennial 2020, a regional multimedia show. She has also received Awards of Excellence and Honorable Mentions at national and regional juried shows, including Quilt Art Elements at the Wayne Art Center in Wayne Pennsylvania, Form Not Function in New Albany, Indiana and Quilts=Art=Quilts in Auburn New York. She has pieces in several private collections.
