Learning how to see and talk about art helps you to grow as an artist. Sometimes we can learn better when we are hearing someone else’s work being discussed. It takes courage to share our artwork with one another. The goal of this group is to create a safe environment to discuss our work with mutual respect for one another.
Critique in art is a constructive conversation with like-minded people to help artists improve their skills. It is really hard to develop as an artist working in a vacuum. Getting helpful feedback from others who have a shared vocabulary and similar skillsets helps artists to grow. The Artist Discussion Sessions seeks to create an environment that both encourages artists and stimulates growth.
Description of Event
- Each person will begin by giving a brief critique/description of their own work. You will receive your critique questions ahead of time so that you can practice.
- A few members of the group will be allowed to either ask a question or make an observation. Please be prepared to be very succinct when speaking. Please carefully frame your words so that they are helpful and not hurtful.
- The presenter may then ask a specific question, if they have one.
- Pamela will then give concise feedback on the critique and the piece presented.
Guidelines
- All participants must stay for all critiques and participate in the entire event.
- Each person will show ONE composition. It may be a fully sewn quilt top or a finished quilt. Partially constructed quilts will NOT be discussed.
- All comments must be constructive. Each individual should listen more than speak.
